Skytrex Adventure - Big Thrill Challenge 28 June 2009

Date: 28 June 2009
Time: 1130hrs
Venue: Taman Pertanian Malaysia, Shah Alam
Event: Skytex Adventure Big Thrill Challenge
Participants: 26 person

This is my first time organizing this type of activity with so many participants. Some were my friends, some my sis’s friends & colleagues & ex-colleagues & friend’s friends. But all of us have good fun & enjoying all the challenges at Skytrex.
Skytrex Adventure is a great activity to challenge your fear of height. There were about more than 20 challenges that we have to conquer – some of them were flying fox, swinging, walking zig-zag, walking on the net, climbing 90 degree stairs etc. If you want to have some fun & the element of adventure – go for this challenge.
Booking is simple – just go online & choose your date & time. Organiser will revert to you on the availability, once you confirm, proceed to make payment. Once payment is confirmed, then your time slot is confirmed. Booking procedure is simple & fuss-free & all is clearly written in the website. I did the booking through 1 of their agents, Whoa Adventure & procedure also similar. Should you be interested to take part in this fun event, please check their website: http://www.skytrex-adventure.com/
Big Thrill is only RM35/adult.

As usual before start of the activitiy, the instructor, May gave us a short briefing on safety procedures. What we should do & shouldn’t do? Everyone pays attention to it coz it’s very important. After that, all of us proceed to get the safety gear – harness. I learnt what is pulley & carabinar (not sure if the spelling is correct or not?) Horizontal challenge – we should use both pulley & the 2 carabinar; vertical challenge – just use 2 carabinar.
After putting up our harness, we proceed to the trial ground – everyone has to go through this to make sure that they understand all the procedures. For anyone who couldn’t go through this trial & training ground, it is not recommended to continue with the challenge coz the real challenge is even much much higher.

Due to our very large group, for those who have completed the training, we started the real challenge. Our 1st real challenge was climbing up a 90 degree ladder attached to a tree which is very high – almost want to give up on this coz it’s very tiring. But I continue on with emotional strength & support from my friend who already up there. Both my friend & myself who were in the first group manage to complete all the challenge in about 1 hour time. The group behind us take their own sweet time to complete & in the process make the others wait for them & they took much longer time to complete all the challenge. We started about 11.30a.m & the whole group completed the task by about 4.00p.m . Everyone seems enjoyed the whole process & I’m happy that they enjoyed that. This is the satisfaction of being an organizer.
We left to Port Klang for seafood dinner. We do not have or lunch, so so hungry. We have the dinner at this Restaurant – Restoran Perlama Bak Kut Teh. We have crab porridge & crab in salted eggs, sotong kia, green vege & chicken. It’s so yummy & delicious especially the crab porridge & crab in salted eggs. After the dinner, we went straightaway back to home. The end of another fruitful & eventful day & beginning of sore & aching arms. We need a lot of upper body strength in the activities. Time to think of another event.

Healthy walk aka Jacob's Walk of Life - 21 June 2009

Event: Jacob’s Walk Of Life

Date: 21 June 2009

Venue: Taman Metropolitan Kepong

On Sunday morning, I woke up early in the morning to participate in the event above. It’s a free event organized by Jacobs Malaysia with some partners – Anlene, Fitness First, Mizuno & some others whch I could not remember. This is also supported by Ministry of Health. The main purpose is to create a healthy lifestyle by encouraging us to walk & eat Jacob’s biscuits…. Ha ha…Some advertisements here.

I went alone to this event, none of my friends interested to join this, some have other things to do, some just plain lazy, some wanted to spend time with family coz it’s a Sunday. Ok…fine… nothing can kill my enthusiasm so I went ahead alone. This is my first time joining an event alone by myself. Most people come with family or a bunch of friends & mostly are from surrounding neighbourhoods.

By the time I reached there, it’s almost 7.30a.m, a lot of people have reached & many many cars were already parked at the roadside _ there were not enough parking spaces available. OMG, I parked my car at the other entrance & have to walk like about 15 mins to reach the registration counter. Already sweating like hell.

I was late, registration counter almost closed. I got my T-shirt & a band. Quickly went to change & go to the starting line. The walk is about 5km . I think we only walk 1 round which is covers the whole park. Phew… this park is huge. My 1st time walking in this park & I notice many people fishing in the lake/pond & a lot of people did cycling as well.

Not forgetting to mentioned – the sunrise view is awesome… I took this with my compact digital camera, if using DSLR will be nicer. Participants totaling about 5000pax & you can see us is a sea of yellow colours walking & walking. Along the way we see some mascots & took the opportunity to took pics with them. First stop toilet – lots of people need to release their water tank. They have posted some questions which we have to answer along the way & if not mistaken, correct entries are entitled to prizes.

The walk was completed by about 9.45a.m – back to the starting point & we can redeem a Jacob’s goodie bag using our wrist band. So I queue up again, the long queue is killing some of thepeople’s patient & started shouting & yelling. Come on la, it’s a just a freebie, why fret over small things. Some even complained that when it’s their turn , 1 of the freebie finished blah blah blah…… In my opinions, the organizer already giving out freebies, you don’t need to pay so why complained. No sense of appreciation. The walk also free, usually when we participate in a walk, we have to pay the registration fees. Come on folks…

I went to meet my friend in Kepong after the walk, though they have some other events going on coz it’s too hot there. We have this Ulu Yam Low mee. Delicious & tasty. It’s located in Kepong near the Old Odeon cinema.
After that, I drove to Times Square to meet up with another friend who’s going to be a camp leader for the upcoming Famine 30 Hours event. I took some registration form from her… yes I’m going to participate in this event.
We meet up at Sweet Chat & this my dessert – Durian chendol – in my opinion not the best chendol I ever tested.
After discussion, time to go back for a nap. I’m so sleepy now.

My 1st yoga class - courtesy of Gwen

I really thankful to my friend, Gwen for inviting me to the yoga beginner class at beyoga - the latest yoga centre in Damansara Perdana.

I still have a few days before deadline. Gosh!ght

In addition to that, I have plan some outings on the weekends, almost all weekends are full now. I think i need to arrange some rest time for myself. I need a time-out. Some quiet time just for myself to relax & reflect on my journey so far. It's time to pull a handbreak & see what's next....

Gathering with ex-colleagues

Traffic Jam ... stuck there about 1/2 hours

Nothing to do so just camwhoring myself...

This is the restaurant .... it's name is Yee Wen

Tonight have dinner with my ex-colleagues at a Thai Restaurant located at Manjalara....We ordered fish, prawns, paku, tofu, tomyam, pandan chicken & kerabu mango. It's quite cheap as each of us only pay RM16.90. It's operated by Thai people but they can speak Hokkien...

Can you guessed what is the dishes above in a correct order? Forgot to take 1 more photo...Guess what?

It's been awhile since we get together & I feel kinda odd-out coz they were talking about the system - the current & the new one. I feel like I don't have anymore comments on this. Probably because now I'm working in totally a different industry & it's been more than a year since I moved on... Yeah I moved on... People needs to keep moving on & keep improving themselves. Do I need to move on again? Most of the time when colleagues get-together whether it's current or ex, the topic of the conversation will be either the bosses, the other colleagues & complaints. Why do people like to get-together & gossip... is it the norm? Anyway, besides that I also learned a lot of new ideas from them for eg. how to do a freelance business etc.
Well I guess it's good if we can meet up once in awile with friends or colleagues. Who knows, we might be able to learn new ideas & be inspired. I believe I have learnt something during the meet-up. It's rare that colleagues can be good friends. I'm happy that my ex-colleagues still can be good friends with each other. Another day has arrived when I finished typing this post. Good morning!

Smoothies anyone?

Last Friday & today, I'm trying to work out a good recipe for smoothies for a new client? We're trying a few different combinations for raspberry, strawberry, blueberry & chocolate flavours. It was fun trying different dosages of each ingredients & we make our test kitchen messy. We are experimenting using our Dreidoppel fruit compound, fruit filling, mango puree & cocoa powder together with whipping cream from MUH, yoggi powder from Pregel, ice cube & sugar syrup. I hope we can offer a better solutions to the customer. Now I know how to make smoothies.......

My little food rendezvous at Teluk Intan

I was back to my hometown last weekend.... and had some rendezvous with the local food there... been a long time never tasted the famous local food there.

The ever famous "Anson Chee Cheong Fun" - different from Penang & KL. It's stuffed with pork, 虾米 and 菜头(i hope i get it correctly)

"Lo mai fun with char siew" - Teluk Intan style - so far still can't find this type of lo mai fun at other places

Home-cooked food by my mum - steamed fish with special sauce bought from Malacca, sambal prawn ala mum's style, 药材汤炒包菜。

These 2 dishes are bought from the market - it's called "acar" & "五香肉"
My hometown now boasts a cinema under the BIG Cinema brand (compatible & comparable to those in KL). My 2 sis went to watch "Angels & Demons" - I took this photo of them
Lastly a little early birthday celebration for my sis who is turning 29 on 10 June....
That's all my little rendezvous in Teluk Intan with my family & food.
