Taman Negara 30 Aug - 1 Sept

Been postponing the blog for very long already... it's been sitting in my drafts for quite some time. Finally I can publish this...

This is my company trip, it’s annual dinner cum trip, this time we are back to nature. We’ll be spending our time in the lush greenery of rainforest for 3 days. For many of us, it’s our 1st time there. It’s my first trip there too, been thinking to go there for quite a long time. At last, it materialised through my company trip. Everyday we are staying n a concrete jungle – KL city. Now it’s time to reconnect back to the nature.

Our journey starts about 8a.m from our office. We asssemble at 7.30a.m for a briefing & everyone took 2 small bottle of mineral water & disposable raincoats before boarding the bus. We have about 46 of us, my boss family travels separate in another van. All this is arranged by the travel agent , NKS. They are 1 of the biggest tour operator for Taman Negara trip. The journey took about 4 hours. Halfway through, our bus suffered a punctured tyre.

Half of us boarded another bus & half of us continue with the same bus, dragging us towards the next nearest tyre shop for change. I’m thinking this journey is indeed very interesting & adventurous. It has started on Day 1 itself. We reached NKS office at Jerarntut about 1p.m. The other group already there having their lunch. Surprisingly, there were so many tourist going there to Taman Negara. It’s full of people. So we waited for our turn for lunch. After lunch, we proceed to Woodlands Resort, our lodging at Taman Negara. Our activitiy starts soon after we check-in. Accomodation are very basic hostel type accomodation (just like school camping) – it’s quadraple sharing.
I’m sharing my room with Tammy, May & Valerie (all the singles lady).
Day 1 Activities
3p.m: Caving at Gua Telinga
I’ve done caving at Gua Tempurung before, so I think I’m ok with this activity. It’s quite challenging inside because it’s very dark, we have to bring torchlight. Imagine my group consist of people of different age group & fitness level. But amazingly, all of us manage to climb out in 1 piece, no major injuries. To be honest, some of the place inside the cave is very small, we have to bend ourselves, glide down, climb up & down, crawling – you name it all type of actions required.
On the way out we saw a lot of bats hanging on top of us. Yuackks…We are also very lucky to see snake inside the cave. The journey tooks us about 1 hour to complete.

The route inside the cave is shorter than Gua Tempurung. From this activity, I realised that all the people in my company are tough people & have this never give up easily attitude. I’m so impressed & proud with all of us. My boss is the best, he came out very clean, while the rest of us get dirty. Probably he used to do this activities & he learned qigong. That’s why, his body is very flexible. Walk back to our resort, took another half an hour or so. Get ourselves cleaned.
Dinner at 7p.m at a floating restaurant – very simple dish only. I think everyone is so hungry, we eat a lot.
Night activities starts about 8p.m – Jungle Walk. Before we start the walk, we are required to watch the documentary about Taman Negara. It’s about 15 mins video about the flora & fauna found in Taman Negara. After the video, we proceed to the Night Jungle Walk, divided to about 3 groups with assigned 1 nature guide. We are expecting to see lot of wildlife but our group only manage to see 1 deer only. Some other group can't see any wildlife at all. After that, we went back to our place. When we reached our hostel, no water supply at woman's quarter. So we went to the men's quarter to take shower. Luckily there're water there if not we were like "ham yu" - salted fish - smelly. After shower, like normal, girls like to gossip - what's more we have 4 of us here. So we gossip until we fall asleep.

Day 2 - Canopy Walk & trek up Bukit Terisek
Another day of challenging & physical activities. After breakfast, we went to Canopy Walk, the whole journey took about 1hr to complete coz our group is quite big (abt 45 of us), only 4 person max are allowed at 1 time on the canopy. After the canopy walk, it's time for trekking. Another physical challenging activities. Some of us decided not to climb so they just lepak around while the rest of us continue our trekking up. The view is spectacular from top. Along the way up, we saw tongkat ali plant & other interesting plants. After reaching the top & taking some pics,
we make our way down for lunch.

Some of our group members who did not went up waited us at the entrance of the Canopy Walk. By this time, all of us were already very hungry coz the activities requires lots of energy, calories burned faster & we feel hungry. We took the boat ride back for lunch. Everyone eats a lot coz we are damn hungry.
After lunch, our journey continues... this time we went for rapid shooting & visit Orang Asli village. Rapid shooting is interesting - similar to white water rafting, the difference is it is very mild & limited rapids, using long boats. Anyway, we all also get wet. They make sure that everyone get wet. This is the fun part. After that, we visited orang asli village/settlement. There are a few orang asli village settlement near Taman Negara. We learned something about their living skills - using blowpipe & making fire. See the pics for more understanding.

We went back to our lodging place after this visit - getting ready for our dinner at Mutiara Resort Taman Negara. By 6.00p.m, all of us are ready & we board the small boat to cross the river to Mutiara. For some lucky ones, they did saw a wild boar roaming freely just outside the resort. I miss that!!
We have buffet dinner - i think the food was the best coz all our earlier meals was simple. We have games & lucky draw. My team lost in both games. Teams who won the games are rewarded. Everyone got their lucky draw gift.
Those who are luckier got an additional gift. I'm 1 of the luckier one, i got RM100 cash & Ramadhan buffet dinner for 2 at Istana Hotel. Am so happy. During dinner, I'm already very tired, forced myself to open my eyes. After dinner, went back & packed my things before zzzz.... Tommorrow is time to go back to KL - the concrete jungle. Going back by long boat - enjoy the scenery along the river. Saw some animals - wild boars, deers etc. See the pics - not clear though..
I really enjoy my trip with my colleagues... very interesting & exciting. I learned a lot from them & get to know them better. During our working time, we don't have much time to really get to know each other better. Wow I'm really looking better at my 2nd outing with my colleagues.
