Save Our Waterfalls Campaign - 25 October 2009

I took part in this campaign organised by Waterfalls Survivors in conjuction with International Day of Climate Action with 2200 activities happening simulataneously on 25 Oct 2009 all over the world.

Kanching Waterfalls

With Ms. Joe Yap, the founder of Waterfall Survivors

Waterfall Survivors is a social group founded on Facebook by Joe Yap & her committee team. This campaign took place in Sg. Kanching Waterfalls in Rawang, Selangor. On that day, we have more than 300 volunteers coming together to clean-up the waterfalls area. Some are college students from Sunway College & international students from Sunway International School, other volunteers are from all walks of life. We started the day with a simple opening ceremony by YB (forgotten the name) & later all the volunteers are split into 4 groups with a leader. We have 4 different stations. I'm at Station B. Together with my group members we quickly pick-up all the rubbish at the Station. There were so many rubbish there, there were even more rubbish in other Station. It seems like the higher the station, there were even more rubbish. We took a lunch break at 12.30p.m & continue with the clean-up after that. By 1.30p.m, we formed a human chain to carry down all the rubbish bag. We took a long time to finish this - almost 1 hr plus & the end result - 500bags of rubbish. I can say that most of the rubbish bags are damn so heavy - filled with empty glass bottles & other heavy stuff.

Me @ Work

But there's one thing that make me sad is that most of the general public are ignorant on what we are doing - they keep on throwing rubbish everywhere & some of them are not helping us. There were many people visiting the waterfalls on that day but they just don't be bothered. I think we need more education on caring & protecting our environment for the well-being of populations of the world.

350 - all the black colour bags behind us are full of rubbish...

Anyway, I feel so good able to help out / volunteer on this campaign on a Sunday. Thank you for all other volunteers to help out. It's great to see other people also care for the environment.
Me & my certs & goodie bag - too bad I don't get any lucky draw gift.

2010 Planning

It's already November 2009 - we'll be welcoming 2010 in less than 2 months now. So now it's time to do serious planning & setting goals/targets for 2010. Sometimes, we're too preoccupied in our daily life that we have forgotten what is our goals/target. We are easily distracted by those small little problems that is holding usback....Don't u think so? As i aged, I feel like I've changed...I can't tell you exactly what have changed but I feel that my priority change.....Health is now very important for me. What about you? Hmmm... back to serious planning now. Counting down to 2010...

2 time accident in November 2009

I've been involved in 2 accidents this November. Accident 1 (early November in my office compound) - I knocked into my own colleague's car & I got to pay the repair cost of the damage I've done to her car. Accident 2 (today at MRR2) - someone knocked my car from the back & some damage at the bonnet. This is more serious & the costs involved is more so we lodge a police report to claim insurance. But luckily, nobody was hurt - only damage to cars. Thank God....Need to pray more or maybe the fengshui not good enough. I've just change my sitting position in the office & so many incdents happened......Hmmm.....I gotta do something about it.

Expedition 2010 - Conquering Mt. Kinabalu

Everything has been finalised, we are going to conquer Mt. Kinabalu next year.....the date from 29 April 2009 - 3 May 2010. Flight has been booked, have paid 40% deposit for the package & now training starts. Our first group training was to Broga Hill, 8 of my team members went together. This is my 2nd attempt climbing Broga Hill. I still missed the sunrise coz by the time we almost reached the 1st peak, the sun already rise. The sun rise earlier now....Sigh!

I feel the climb is tougher for me this time, probably because my stamina not up to the par. But overall, it's a fun day outing with lots of photo taking sessions, we are all camwhores. ha ha. My first trip there also with lots of photos few months back with a different group of friends.

The beaches

Oh....how i miss beaches.....sandy white beaches. It's been quite awhile since I went to any beaches. Yesterday I went to Port Dickson to visit my customers & as I drove along the coastal road I saw a long stretch of beaches.....So nice, suddenly I feel like going to beaches again... Good sunny weather & all the coconut trees. I need a holiday & it must be to beaches. Well now I need to travel to Seremban, PD & Melaka to service my customers - some changes in my portfolio which I think it's good coz now i can travel. Even though it's for business but at least I got to explore these places which I hardly will explore on my own. Thank you for the opportunity & I hope the sales will increase soon.

Now I need to plan for my beach holidays....

My first Famine 30 hours - 22 - 23 August 2009

This post is way too late, supposed to be up by August but been too busy & no mood to write about it till now…

Date: 22 - 23 August 2009

Time: 1200hrs onwards on 22 Aug 2009 until 1800hrs on 23 Aug 2009

Venue: Persatuan Ajaran Agama Chi Hui Tang & Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil

Event: Famine 30 hours Camp 2009

This is the 10th year World Vision organized the Famine 30 Hours camp in Malaysia & this is my first year participating in the Famine Camp. Probably because I always think of joining this camp, I finally get to know that Jessica is organizing one for her Vanness Wu Fan Club members this year. She invited me to participate in the camp even though I’m not a member of the Vanness Wu Fan Club. I asked another friend to join this camp together. She also has been thinking to join the camp for some time. Both of us registered & we raised funds for the partner organizations that World Vision worked together.

I drove to our camp centre after work on 22 August 2009. Though registration starts from 12p.m, I only manage to reached the centre about 2.45p.m but I start fasting from 12p.m onwards. Due to the wide outbreak of H1N1 virus, we take extra precaution to measure our body temperature & always use the antiseptic lotion to make sure that we are free from virus. We did clean-up the place so that we can sleep at night After the cleaning & washing, we proceed to have our games section – it’s called Slumstar. It reminded me of the movie Slumdog Millionaire. Well by playing this game, I understand how people struggle to make ends meet in their life. Not everyone is blessed with good health & body – this makes them difficult to make ends meet & there were unscrupulous people out there who bully this unfortunate group f people. It’s tough to produce those little stars with newspaper coz the material is very thin.
Our day & night is filled with activities so that our craving for food is diverted. At night we watched a movie called Blood Diamond. It was a movie where the Western people exploited the African people to get the diamonds there. I don’t really get the message of this movie & I don’t really like to watch this type of movie genre – not my cup of tea. By the time this movie ended, I have zzzzzz…..

The next morning, we woke up early, clean up the place & took a group photo together before we packed off to Stadium Bukit Jalil. The last 6 hours countdown was done in a big group with other DIY camps around Malaysia. The get-together of all the DIY camps amounted to almost 8000+ people all over Malaysia, some were from Klang, Ipoh, Penang, Johor, Pahang etc. It’s so heartwarming to see so many people from all over Malaysia gather for a good cause & of course some fun. We were being entertained by our local artistes such as Michael Wong, Daniel Lee, Francesca Peter, some others local singers. Of course the highlight is the Final Countdown with the special guests, A Mei all the way from Taiwan….She brings the house down. OMG….you should see the crowd dancing & the energy is so high that it doesn’t seem that we’re on fasting for 30 hours….

All in, it was a great weekend with all the great people who cares for other people & give all the time. I already thinking of next year Famine 30hrs if there’s 1.
